Along with custom furniture, we do a lot of custom turned balusters, newel posts and porch columns as part of restorations or new construction projects. When the company was originally owned by Stephen Plaud, a second division of the company was set up to strictly produce custom turned pieces for all of Stephen Plaud’s furniture projects as well as any other project requiring custom turned items like hard-to-match, historic stair balusters. This company was aptly named Custom Wood Turning, and still operates just down the street in Tiverton, Rhode Island. Today, Custom Wood Turning is one of only a handful of companies on the East Coast that specializes in custom wood turned pieces. They are equipped to turn any style or shape including any turning that is 16″ diameter or less or 14′ long or less. Stephan still manages Custom Wood Turning and runs the business out of his office in our 381 State Avenue building. All pieces are made to order; below are a number of sample turnings from over the years.
