Beds are a specialty over at Scott James Furniture & Design; We have the production process down to a science, and we genuinely enjoy fabricating different styles from week to week.
Yes, we do have our own line of SJF&D beds, that you can view right here on our website. The classic and timeless collections have been around for decades and they’re still to this day gaining popularity. The Tulip Top, Classic Cannonball, and Farmhouse spool are among customers’ favorites, but we do get quite a few requests for the Wakefield, Metro Pencil, Little Compton, and Portsmouth Pineapple. Recently, the Sunnybrook Farm has been making its way around, too.
That doesn’t mean that we don’t get quote requests and orders for other beds in our line, because we absolutely do.
If you’re looking to have any bed priced out, let us know and we’ll take care of you. The quoting and ordering process is fairly simple, as long as you square away all the details as early on as possible.
When ordering a bed through us, we like to be straightforward and let you know what details we’ll need to fabricate your new and beautiful piece of furniture. We encourage questions at any time because we want to make sure you leave here ecstatic and eager to get your new furniture home - and maybe you’ll want to come back to finish your bedroom set with us, or inquire about other furniture options throughout your home.
Here’s what we need to complete the bed of your dreams:
Wood Species - Select what kind of look you’re trying to achieve by choosing from woods like Maple, Ash, Cherry, Walnut, Oak, Tiger Maple, and Mahogany. Remember, each wood has different characteristics, color tones, and grain patterns, which means that each species lends itself well to a certain line of finishes. Call and ask us questions about wood species and finishing options (stain or paint) any time. If you aren’t sure whether the finish you’re looking to have will look the same on the wood you’re selecting, let’s get a sample in the queue and see!
Dimensions - We’re all about customization, which means we can fit the bed to your needs. We encourage our customers to go out, find a mattress and box spring to their liking, and let us know what those dimensions are. Most of the time, both mattresses and box springs have standard width and length measurements; it’s only the height we need to set the rails accordingly along the posts - unless you’re having your mattress and box spring specially made. To be on the safe side, get us the entire dimension and you’ll be in the clear. Last, we’ll need your desired sleeping height; that’s how far the mattress sits from the floor. The standard sleeping height ranges from 28-31”H, but we can make anything work.
Finish - Our finishing crew is very talented and can get just about any color you’re looking for. in paint or stain options. We do have a current line of standard options for our customers to choose from, but we can also create finish samples for approval if you supply a photo or in-person color chip. Head to our finish page to check some of them out; We do have a few more not photographed in stock to send out, too. You’ll come across all stains on our finish page, but we also work well with paints. Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams colors are our primary go-to and we tell all of our customers to start there. The plethora of options gives everyone a great deal of colors to pick from. Intricate finishes may cost a bit more, but we do offer choices like wire-brushing, cerusing, wear, and distress options.
Bed Bolt Covers - If you take a look at our hardware selection, you’ll find some great options to at least start your bed bolt cover search. Most of the time, our customers fall in love with the bed bolt covers we provide, but if there’s ever anything you want to replace our options, call us and we’ll see what we can do to help! These little pieces of hardware simply cover up the bolts that fasten the side rails into the posts and give each bed a little bit of bling!
